Dog Training; in Manchester, Cheshire and Tameside with Dawe's Paws
My puppy is only 8 weeks old, is that too young?
As long as your puppy has had all of his/her vaccinations, they can begin training with Dawe's Paws, while you are waiting for them to get the all clear from your vet why not start training at home? Sit, down and the recall are a great place to start.
Is my dog too old for training classes?
Definitely not, any dog of any age can learn new tricks!
My dog doesn't get on with other dogs, can he still come to classes?
If you have seen your dog showing signs of aggression towards other dogs I would need to see them for myself before they came to a group session. I would bring along one of my own dogs so I could see the extent of their behaviour, in some cases I will allow them to join the classes, but usually ask that they wear a basket muzzle for the first few sessions. Otherwise I would recommend some one to one training before they are exposed to numerous amounts of dogs at one time.
My dog bites and barks at me, does your training cover these issues?
The classes don't specifically cover behavioural issues, however, I do explain a lot about how to communicate with your dog and what you can do to improve unwanted behaviours, barking and jumping up is common, especially in young dogs. if you're dog is exhibiting these behaviours the easiest thing you can do is simply IGNORE them! They may escalate their behaviour, as previously this has worked for them in getting your attention, when they have calmed down/walked away, you can then show them attention. Please stick at it for a few weeks and you should start to see some improvements.
Are the dogs allowed off lead play in class?
The first ten minutes or so in every class is spent as off lead socialisation, this enhances ALL of the dogs socialisation skills and also teaches you, the owner what they are saying to one another.
Are the classes fun for the owners as well as the dogs?
I would like to think so, they are intended to teach you and give you tools to work with your dog in the outside world, but they are also light hearted and relaxed.
